Hints & Tips to reduce your energy use at home
Turn off, not Standby
Turn all appliances off at the plug, not just put them on standby.
You can use timer plugs to help turn them off when you don't need them.
Go down a degree
By turning the thermostat down even by one or two degrees can save a lot of energy over the year.
Wash on a cooler cycle
Washing at 30 degrees can really help reduce the energy used when you use the washing machine, compared to using it at 40 degrees.
Insulate your loft
Heat rises, so keep it locked in to your home. By insulating your roof you can stop heat escaping and help reduce the amount of energy you need to use to heat your home.
Use water wisely
Use a washing up bowl rather than a running tap; only fill the kettle with as much water as you need every time you use it; try timing your shower and aim for a minute less.
Get out the draught
Draught-proofing your home will help keep the heat in and those cold winds out. Windows, doors or cracks in floors and skirting boards can all let those pesky draughts in.
